CULTIVATION
Our 100% Arabica beans grow in the sunny highland regions of Peru, Honduras, Colombia, and Mexico. The coffee plants are not grown as monocultures, but share the land with other fruit trees such as mango, papaya, avocados, or cocoa. This serves to preserve biodiversity, which keeps the number of pests low in a natural way. Additionally, this practice reduces the amount of fertilizer used and avoids depletion of nutrients from the land. BLÆK focuses on small cooperatives that ensure fair wages and better working conditions for coffee farmers. Often these initiatives are too small to receive a Fairtrade certification. However, we focus on transparency and always strive for direct contact with our coffee farmers, in order to take a high level of social responsibility.

TRANSPORT
Our premium Arabica beans are shipped to Germany by freight ship. This is not the most environmentally friendly option. Therefore, we closely monitor the market for sustainable innovations. We are very excited to see what the future of overseas transport has in store for us! A solar-powered megadrone? Sustainable, whale-friendly submarines? Or even a floating freight ship powered by hydrogen! We remain curious and always look for alternatives.

EXTRACTION
Now for the good news! Instant coffee is the most sustainable way to enjoy coffee. While when brewing at home, only a very small percentage of the coffee beans are used and the rest ends up in the trash, thanks to our efficient process, we can extract each coffee bean just the right amount and avoid unnecessary waste. The resulting coffee grounds can be reused. Processed as new energy input, or as material for yoga mats, cups, or furniture.

PREPARATION
Because our coffee has the consistency of a fine powder due to our innovative production, it is soluble at a temperature of 20° C. This is particularly beneficial when camping with camping stoves or when saving energy. And in the summer, your BLÆK can be prepared directly cold!

In addition, less equipment is needed when enjoying instant coffee. Usually, the highest energy consumption at home is for brewing, portafilters and fully automatic machines look nice but are energy-consuming and weigh heavily in the energy balance.

RE- AND UPCYCLING
Instant coffee is very sensitive to moisture. Therefore, we use airtight packaging to protect the coffee from humidity. Our packaging is also made from 100% recyclable materials and can be easily recycled or upcycled. We also encourage our customers to return the packaging to us so that we can reuse it.

RE- AND UPCYCLING

Instant coffee is very sensitive to moisture. Therefore, it needs a strong barrier. This is a major challenge from a sustainability perspective. One is often dependent on the use of aluminum or other multi-materials and intermediate foils, which do not easily return to the material cycle, but are incinerated.
We use a robust monoplastic for our sachets, which can be easily sorted out and reused. It is therefore best to recycle them in the yellow bin.

You can dispose of the empty BLÆK box in the paper waste unless you find a cooler alternative for it, such as gift wrapping for jewellery, storing condoms or tampons, or as an alternative wallet when travelling.

Our BLÆK glasses are ideal for upcycling!
For example, jars are great for storing spices. If you don't want to give the jars a second life, the best way to dispose of them is to separate the lid and jar.
The glass goes into the glass container for amber glass. The lid is also made of monoplastic and therefore belongs in the yellow bin, like the sachets.

1% FOR THE PLANET

PLANET AFTER CARE

At BLÆK we strive for sustainability and mindfulness towards our planet and nature.

Time is running out. We are facing major environmental protection challenges - only together can we change something - while the big companies find excuses, we want to be active together as a young company.

We want to take more responsibility for the impact we leave behind. That's why we participate in the 1% for the Planet project and donate 1% of earnings to charitable projects like Sea Shepherds. we participate in the 1% for the Planet project and donate 1% of earnings to charitable projects like Sea Shepherds.
